Word for Year 2021

Your Word for 2021

Did you have a merry Christmas?  Oh, I pray so.  If you’re in a tough season right now, could we call it a blessed Christmas at least?  When we praise God for His blessings, He turns the blessed feelings back to us.  Amen?

Maybe you’re like others who are glad to get another milestone of 2020 behind us – and get closer to moving on to 2021 ahead.  And, by the way, could we not even have a calm Christmas in 2020?  Our peace could have taken a hit from the Nashville bombing, but we know the Source of true peace.  For believer/embracer sisters, our peace is in Christ.  Can I get another Amen?

Have you chosen a word to be your 2021 focus?  Do you make that process a practice before the beginning of most years?  Naming a word or two (or a phrase) for the year has basically, for me, replaced making resolutions.

We tend to kick resolutions to the curb quickly.
A simple word is sometimes easier to stick to and remember.

As I reflect back to last year’s two words (Faithfulness and Favor for 2020 Focus), I’m struck by God’s continual faithfulness and favor.  While my faithfulness to the Lord and to you this year was at times lacking, God was and is always faithful, no matter how I handle my end.

He also revealed His favor in my life, through all the weirdness of this crazy year.  (He favors all His children, y’all.)

With 2021 quickly approaching, I’ll share a little here of the path to which God is leading me.

First of all, my new 2021 Spiritual Seeds Planner (SSP)* brings a fresh way for spiritual growth planning and relationship-building with the Lord, one that I look forward to incorporating right away.  (Other new SSP sisters have expressed the same to me.)

If you’re still undecided about a planner, the  Spiritual Seeds Planner*  sisters have a New Year Offer* for us.  At checkout, you’ll see that all 2021 planners are $25.00 right now.  That’s a ten dollar savings!

They truly want as many of us as possible to join them in the seed planting, cultivating, and growing next year.  They truly have a heart for the Lord and for you to draw closer to Him!

Another bonus is the SSP sisters send occasional reminders and helps by email.  Nothing pesky or intrusive, just helpful tips and downloads that are useful to us.

Join me on our embracer sister Facebook Page as we watch together as the Spiritual Seeds Planner sisters on Facebook Live  give us planner tips (and meet them for real!) on January 2nd at 11 AM Central (Noon Eastern, etc.)

With the craziness of 2020, don’t you think a little extra focus on our relationship with the Lord might help us as we travel through 2021, which could become even crazier?  (I pray not!)  I personally think the spiritual growth focus will help you and me through all types of seasons, the tough or triumphant.

In looking at the Fruit of the Spirit (the SSP focus), I considered using one as my word for the year.  The word love seems to be sort of popular, and it’s a good one.  The entire world could certainly benefit from a focus on kindness, goodness, or gentleness right now.  Right?

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galations 5:22-23 NIV)

As I prayed and pondered over this verse, the Lord brought self-control to my mind in particular.  As if He was saying,

How about the one that causes you the most struggle?

That’s a thought, for sure!  And, I did.  I prayed and pondered on it for a few days, until the idea of practicing contemplative prayer entered my time with the Lord.  I looked up the word contemplative, which means to contemplate.  To think deeply upon.  Ha – to ponder (a favorite Southern term of mine, wink).

I prefer one word for the year over two, so I really wanted to narrow it down to one word.  As I contemplate, I will include all of the fruit of the Spirit next year, even those that cause me the most struggle.

The beauty of the Spiritual Seeds Planner is that you and I can choose any of the fruit as the center of attention (together with the Lord) in any month, at any time. Click To Tweet

Self-control will be my chosen fruit for January.  What will be your focus fruit (of the Spirit)?  I will start immediately working on that most-difficult-for-me fruit.  Isn’t it neat how God works?  He works it all out perfectly!  A favorite verse of many of us:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.
(Romans 8:28 NIV, emphasis mine.)

God has such a great sense of humor!  The word ponder, on the surface, is much like the word contemplate, and I thought of using ponder as my word for 2021.  I like the silly-ness of it.  Contemplate seems somewhat more serious and reverent.  God definitely approves silly, y’all!  But, when I think of prayer, that’s not so silly.  Finally, my word for 2021 is settled.

How about you?  Will you choose a word?  Two words? A phrase?  Have you decided?

Please share in the comments below.  I’d really love to know.  🙂

Hi and welcome! It's wonderful to have fellow "embracers" during some pretty tough seasons - and some triumphant ones, too. I invite you to enroll to receive my blog posts by email so you don't miss what's coming next.

I love your focus on “contemplate” for the fruit of the Spirit! And especially choosing a different fruit over the months. That’s how I like to break down my word too. I’ll share this link in our FB group!

    • Kim

Thank you, Lisa. I wanted to share an earlier post yesterday at your link-up but was, of course, busy all day. I’ll try to visit tomorrow and check out the posts linked. Contemplative prayer first came to me through the book, The Sacred Enneagram. I’m sure you’ve probably read it. Funny how God weaves these things together. 🙂

Lovely piece. I Like the way you home in on exactly the concept you need.

Love the look of those weekly planners! I’ve been looking for a Christian-themed diary to help keep me on track every day, but I didn’t want set readings every day.

    • Kim

Yes, I like the flexibility of these planners, too. The planner sisters’ husbands use the planners, too, by the way. So glad you stopped by to check out the planner! 🙂

  • Julie Rood

We LOVE your word Kim! Although ponder is fun 🤔 …..
It is truly God’s work bringing us together to plant, cultivate and grow fruit in 2021! We’ll see you on Saturday ❤️🌱

    Hi Kim
It has been a good while since I have connected with you 🙂 I found your email as I was browsing through my inbox and was going to dismiss it, sorry… but was impressed to open it. Was pleasantly surprised to see how much you’ve grown in this work of the Lord! Thank you Jesus !
So for years, my daughter has been going through a difficult time with her husband. We are covering her with prayer daily and her children. The Lord gave me a Word for her as we were praying together recently.
It has never left me and I know its not only for her but for His Bride, His Church. I wanted to share this with
you… Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Prov 4:23…. This new year will require some diligence, so much depends on the state of our heart.
    God Bless Kim

Awe, Mary, it’s great to have you here again! 🙂 I discovered a couple of months ago that readers were getting my emails in their spam/junk folder and not seeing my emails at all. After recently changing my settings to receive posts from our former email address (still active), it worked! Thank you for sharing your Word from the Lord. Guarding our hearts has been on my radar lately, too. All for His glory! Virtual hugs, my sister.

  • Mary

Thank you Kim for reaching out to me! Wasn’t sure why I couldn’t connect either!!!
Love the Website and made a purchase already too 😀
Looking forward to following your ministry.
