• How to Know God Will Do It

But, WILL He? How to Know God WILL Do It

Will He?  That was my question.  For months. Soon after our prodigal season began, a very close friend (and 2 AM sister) sent me the book, He is Able by Priscilla Shirer.  It’s a great book for recounting all the ways that anything is possible with God!  All the while . . . I had another question. I Know God is Able. But, WILL He? You might ask, “Will He what?”  And my answer would have been. “WILL God answer my plea?  WILL He bring our daughter back?” If you read last week’s (shameless) post  He First Loved Us In The Hard Seasons and my continual tears for months, today’s…

  • Believe!

    In Prayer…Believe!

God commands us to trust Him and not to fear.  Verses are sprinkled through the entire breadth of our Bible – 365 verses on fear – one for each day of the year.  When will we stop our sin of fearing and not trusting God? While our prodigal was on walkabout, I lived for months in agony and finally got to the point of hearing God clearly on this.  This is what He said to my heart one day as I prayed. Your lack of trust in Me is nothing but pure S-I-N. Your lack of trust is what needs fixing here. Take care of your part, and I’ll fix…

  • For They Know Not What To Do

They Know Not What To Do

It’s Labor Day as I write.  By the time I click “publish”, I will be hoping you had a blessed Labor Day.  As for me, I’ve been sitting here in my prayer chair, crying out to God since morning for a few particular children of a few particular friends.  And, I feel a burden.  As badly as our child’s sin pains us, imagine how our sin must pain our heavenly Father. Then Jesus said,  “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34a) The circumstances were completely different when Jesus prayed those words in His final hour before burial and resurrection.  But, this is what came to…

  • Where Are You, God

    Where Are You, God?

Do you sometimes feel that God doesn’t hear you?  Do your prayers seem to end at  the ceiling? God, where are You? When you’re in a tough season and praying for a certain outcome in your circumstances, what’s a good way to pray fervently and know God is hearing your prayer?  The answer is this: by praying in alignment with His word… by praying scripture. Regarding your recent earnest prayer, what is a barrier for you? Is it hard for you to draw near to God?  Why do you think so? Why do we oftentimes resist spending time with God and digging into scripture? What things in your day take…

  • Scripture Prayers for the Prodigal

A Freebie For Parents of Prodigals (and Their Praying Friends)

Parents of a prodigal need major prayer support.  If you have a friend with a prodigal, praying scripture is a quiet and meaningful way to minister to them.  And, you can do it from the comfort of your own home – from your own comfy chair or sofa. When our child left as a prodigal, we were thrown into devastation and hit our knees in prayer.  We found very little to no help from the church universal for our specific situation, and our local church (as an organization) didn’t know how to help us, either.  Don’t get me wrong.  Because of our deep pain, our wonderful church family loved us…

  • Whatever You Ask

    Poof! Have it Your Way!

I love how the brother of Jesus speaks plainly and clearly in his New Testament book of James.  He gets down to the nitty-gritty in his five chapters, and he doesn’t mince words.  If we get confused about God’s intentions for our actions, James is certain to straighten us out! The first part of James 4:2 is fairly sharp as he says we want what we don’t have, so we scheme and kill to get it.  We are jealous of what others have, but we can’t get it, so we fight and wage war to take it away from them. We don’t all wage war, but some of us are…
