Making Time for Time With Jesus

What sort of season are you in right now?  I know winter and possibly snow season, but in your life.  Is it snowy in your life . . . cold . . . lonely . . . a hard time right now?  If so, I picture you staying inside, huddling by the fire, drinking warm cups of tea.  Are you taking time to be with the Lord?  Our tendency is to turn to God when we are in a season of suffering. If you happen to be in a good season right now, I picture you in a season of joyful sledding . . . laughter . . . friends…

  • BAKED ZUCCHINI ZITI

    Healthful Baked Zucchini Ziti

So whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31) There is more to this pasta dish than meets the eye.  This zucchini ziti is not meatless.  You can choose ground beef or turkey – or even ground deer.  The American diet is overloaded with sugars and simple carbs and, worst of all, it’s lacking in ample quantities of veggies.  We are the most healthy when we eat foods close to the way God created them, adding in more vegetables to our meals whenever possible.    Zucchini is the health star of this dish! Why Zucchini is a Health…

  • How to Know God Will Do It

But, WILL He? How to Know God WILL Do It

Will He?  That was my question.  For months. Soon after our prodigal season began, a very close friend (and 2 AM sister) sent me the book, He is Able by Priscilla Shirer.  It’s a great book for recounting all the ways that anything is possible with God!  All the while . . . I had another question. I Know God is Able. But, WILL He? You might ask, “Will He what?”  And my answer would have been. “WILL God answer my plea?  WILL He bring our daughter back?” If you read last week’s (shameless) post  He First Loved Us In The Hard Seasons and my continual tears for months, today’s…

Four Quick and HEALTHY Breakfast Ideas

Welcome back into my kitchen, where we discuss Restoring Your Temple.  God’s Temple in you.  Then God said, ‘Look!  I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.’  (Genesis 1:29) Last Saturday when we covered how to Boost Your Healthy Tea Time, I promised to continue by reviewing healthy breakfast ideas.  These are some of my regulars (and I’ll share others in the future individually).  These today are my faves because you can largely prepare them in advance for grab and go breakfasts later.  Don’t we all like to make mornings easier?  A little planning ahead pays off big time! To…

He First Loved Us In The Hard Seasons

It was a Sunday morning.  Just like all the other Sundays during that hard season, I stood during our morning worship welcome time with my eyes cast downward, trying to hide my tear-streaked face. Poor choir!  Our third-row-pew afforded the choir members an up-front-and-personal view of raw emotion so visible that I know it grew somewhat irritating and tiresome for them to endure every Sunday.  Week after week turned into month upon month.  When would it end? That’s the way it is with a prodigal season of shame, sadness, and indescribable grief.  Well, that’s the way it was for me, at least.  If you’ve experienced a season of brutal betrayal,…

    Boost Your Healthy Tea Time

In my last post (How Anything But Optimal Health Limits Us In All Seasons), I kept thinking, “With so many healthy additions to my meals these days, where do I begin?”  God gave us His perfect food to keep us healthy.  He designed our bodies with a restorative ability gleaned from the nourishing foods we eat.  The problem is that man changed the food, insinuating that fresh fruits and vegetables are plain, boring, not tasty, and not good enough. The truth of if it is that we get very little nourishment from the popular foods of today.  It takes a targeted effort to include foods that pack a nutrient punch…

How Anything But Optimal Health Limits Us In All Seasons

Neighbors, Welcome Into My Kitchen! Excuse me while I freshen things for company.  I have my face on this morning, so no more Instagram pictures  like I shared last weekend, surrounded by Christmas clutter sans make-up.  (Horrors!  And, please follow me.)  Dusting my hands off now with Christmas decor all boxed up (woohoo!).  All I lack now is bribing hubs to pack away the Christmas Tree of Hope. A question for you:  As you look back at the long line of hills and valleys of your life, through hard seasons and celebratory times, can you agree that you needed God’s strength most of all and also good health?  As Christians,…

  • How To BE Without BEing Stressed!

I’m afraid that I may have left you with the wrong impression in my last post (TO BE or NOT TO BE in 2019).  Did you take it that I said you should BE something spectacular?  To pile onto your already-filled-plate to BE more?  To BE better?  Maybe even to outBE others?  What pressure! Part of BEing who God wants us to BE is BEing at rest in Him. BEing at peace.  BEing content to simply BE who He calls us to BE. Yesterday This morning in my happy place (where it’s just God and me, alone without distraction), I was reading the passages and questions from a 50-day personal…

TO BE or NOT TO BE in 2019

Happy New Year!  It felt good to flip over my calendar this morning to a fresh new day, new month, and brand new year.  I hope you enjoyed your holidays (holy days) with family and friends.  I so enjoyed the chats with you on my Tree of Hope  post.  You continue to bless me with your sweet, supportive comments, prayers, and encouragements. I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but I continually ponder and pray about what God has for me next.  How about you? Surely you know that you are gifted with many talents.  Even if you think you lack talent for anything much, God equipped you with specific…

    Christmas Blessings

Merry Christmas! If you came to be with me here from my blog at the former Curtain Queen Creates, you might remember Rocky Henriques.  He’s a preacher and author who offered us his Kindle e-book freebies from time to time.  I still enjoy his books! Rocky is very giving and offered to help me with needs like designing book covers in the past.  I visited his Facebook page here recently, where he shared this wonderful image at no charge for non-profit use.  Of course I took him up on the offer so I could share it with you.  😉 Image Source With the addition of L-O-V-E, this image Rocky designed…

  • Christmas Tree of Hope

    Tree of Hope

Are you ready for Christmas?  I am this year, but that wasn’t the case last Christmas.  Our daughter decorated the entire house for Christmas last December, which was wonderful!  But things were hard.  Different.  Everything was a struggle. Large sections of lights on our thirteen-year-old artificial tree were lifeless.  Working lights had to be strung.  I said to forget it and not fool with it – to not have a tree at all.  It was beyond me.  With years of decking our halls when often no family members took part, I was ready to join the ranks of the others and do the same.  Details didn’t matter anymore.  December days…

  • LACKING in LOVING and Leaving The Church

There’s a story of D.L. Moody directing his Sunday School class in Chicago long ago.  A boy in his class walked several miles to that church for Sunday School rather than attending a church closer to his home.  Someone asked him why he walked so far to the church over there  when he didn’t have to. His reply is why we should treat others among us carefully and lovingly.  His reply demonstrates why people leave a particular church and never go back.  It might even prove why people are leaving the church, period.  His reply: Because they love a feller over there. Think about that.  Is your church loving of…

  • What Would You Do?

What Would You Do If Faced With ISIS?

Have you ever wondered how you would react if an enemy held a gun to your face and demanded that you renounce Jesus Christ or die? Early in my faith, I questioned my ability to stand strong.  My faith in the Lord had not fully developed yet.  It isn’t always easy to predict what we’d do in that moment when faced with possible torture and probable death.  Do or die.  What would it be? It’s quite possible that you know without doubt what you would do.  I now know and thank our Lord for many tough seasons of preparation!  Trials are the refining seasons some of us (me!) need for…

  • HOW DID THEY KNOW?

    How Did They Know?

Did you have a blessed Thanksgiving weekend?  Oh, I hope so! Both of our kids were home for a full four days of blessings…so refreshing after last year’s Thanksgiving day alone.  At that time, I was walking like a drunk person and was too embarrassed to go anywhere much besides church.  I sent my family to enjoy turkey and the trimmings at a tailgate we were invited to attend before their Mississippi State University football game. While alone, I went on-line and researched all about Multiple Sclerosis.  I’d had the thought years earlier that my symptoms could be MS related but didn’t think they were bad enough to mean anything…

Lysa Terkeurst – More Than My Virtual Friend

Does it grieve you to see others in pain?  I am filled with love, compassion, and thankfulness all at the same time today.  Let me explain.  Lysa Terkeurst (whose name I always struggled to spell) is someone many of you know from her best-selling books, speaking engagements at Christian women events, and all things Proverbs 31 Ministries. I’ve grown alongside Lysa for the past fifteen years at least, as we are in the same stage with our now-grown children.  While raising her kids, she taught me to give the Best Yes, my fave from her completely inspiring writings.   She came out publicly recently with her personal story of life-shattering…
