Does God tickle you in the way He works sometimes? I swanee (clearly a southern term, y’all), how I enjoy His sense of humor! When God places a certain verse in front of you time and time again, all in different settings, from separate sources, within the time frame of only a couple of days, whether in a tough season or a triumphant one, sometimes I want to say,
OK, God. I got it! 🙂
I’ve been reviewing Annie Downs’ book, 100 Days to Brave, a second time and read this verse again recently regarding Gideon.
The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, ‘The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior.’ (Judges 6:12)
I was also in the midst of studying Gideon again with Priscilla Shirer. In late July, Lifeway offered to send a link to the weekly videos that go along with the study for those who registered. I signed up, even though I completed the study years ago on my own with only the study book and with no weekly videos (that you normally get with a group study).
The final blanks from those video pages remained empty until the last week’s video arrived recently. What a nice review, and also with new and fresh perspectives in the videos. I highly recommend studying Gideon with Priscilla Shirer. (She is such a good Bible Study teacher!)
Anyhoo, I studied the verse deeply again (occurrence #2) in the homework one day soon after reviewing it with Annie Downs. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, 'The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior.' (Judges 6:12) Click To Tweet
Do you include a daily devotional in your morning routine? I don’t normally but was hooked after finishing 100 Days to Brave. Since Priscilla Shirer is so high on my list, I found a highly recommended devo she wrote called Awaken* and started it immediately after delivery to my house.
That leads me to occurrence #3 with the verse about Gideon being a valiant warrior as the highlighted verse of the day in the early pages of Awaken.
You might think I’m crazy, but I searched through my Kindle book titles a few weeks ago, looking for a certain book I thought I had downloaded. I couldn’t find it but ran across this devo I never started, The 90-Day Spiritual Awakening Journal*.
Guess what! 🙂
It’s another daily devo to cultivate spiritual awakening and diving deeper. Very short, easy, but deeply introspective. It has promptings and things on which to ponder throughout the day and discuss with the Lord as we go about our usual activities – and later possibly return to journal. Plus, it’s so handy to have on your phone to quickly read when convenient and get started with the day’s pondering.
Occurrence #4. I returned to my journal to record all that God had been saying that day about calling Gideon the thing he had not yet become. The thing into which God was transforming him. That thing, a valiant warrior, which Gideon would be some day. Someday . . . later.
At the time, Gideon was hiding in fear. He didn’t look valiant at all. But God saw Gideon as valiant.
And I love that, how God sees us as we WILL BE, not how we are right now. Not how we ARE or AREN’T but how we WILL BE after His Holy Spirit works in us. And, that’s how we WILL BE when we meet the Lord in heaven. Perhaps that will be our name in heaven. The name God gives us. All our own. Valiant warrior or something totally different but fitting in God’s eyes (and most likely a tad or totally unbelievable to you right now).
What a comfort, and how the pressure is off, my friends!
This reminds me of my New Year’s post (To BE or Not To BE) for this year with the focus on BEing rather than DOing. Upon review, this post seems to sort of continue that post. What a coinkidink! God is the Master of All and also Master of coinkidinks, y’all. 😉
How’s your BEing rather than DOing going so far in 2019?? What is it you think God may have named you long ago? Are you seeing His work in getting you closer to BEing that attribute you ARE in HIS eyes, whatever He named it? I can hardly wait to hear your answers. Let’s chat in the comments below, shall we? 🙂
