Parents of a prodigal need major prayer support. If you have a friend with a prodigal, praying scripture is a quiet and meaningful way to minister to them. And, you can do it from the comfort of your own home – from your own comfy chair or sofa.
When our child left as a prodigal, we were thrown into devastation and hit our knees in prayer. We found very little to no help from the church universal for our specific situation, and our local church (as an organization) didn’t know how to help us, either. Don’t get me wrong. Because of our deep pain, our wonderful church family loved us through it!
We were scrambling for a Christian intervention, of sorts, so our idea of help at that time was a little extreme. In time, we discovered that the steady and patient prayers of family and friends were among the most important factions of all. Many people prayed diligently for our family. What a blessing that was!
Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16 KJV)
I am blessed with wonderful prayer warrior friends. One friend in particular typed a list of scripture prayers to guide we three friends who fasted and prayed one specified day each week. (Two of us had prodigals at the time.)
Your support of your friend in this way has a double bonus. While you’re petitioning heaven on your friend’s behalf, you’re also propping them up in the battle for victory. This passage was on my mind continually as my friends and I prayed. I imagined them holding up my arms during battle as if they were Aaron and Hur!
As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle. (Exodus 17:11-13)
What a beautiful picture of victory! What truly great friends! And, what a perfectly boosting vision of my friends holding up my arms in prayer battle.
We occasionally would add another verse to the list. Recently, I compiled our typed sheets with scribbles into a nice and neat download for others to use easily.
